The Office of Research
and Development aspires to create a research environment that fosters
scientific discovery, and thus improve the health of veterans and their
families. The Research Healthcare Group mission and vision statements
reflect the Healthcare System's mission and vision statements and strategic
plan. The services provided by the Health Care Group are based on identified
patient needs, and sound scientific practices.
Mission Statement: Promote cooperation between the research and
development office and the investigator to facilitate scientific discovery
and new knowledge.
Vision Statement: Create a research environment that fosters
collaboration, integrity, creativity, innovation, scientific discovery, and
economic prosperity.
All research, including research involving VA patients, requires stringent
feasibility, resource, capacity, safety, and scientific review. The Research
and Development Committee, having delegated responsibility for the integrity
of research projects, must approve all projects at a properly convened
meeting.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
Research and Development (R&D)
Committee: Oversight and review of all research studies and
proposals.
Institutional Review Board (IRB):
On-site review of human studies proposals.
Subcommittee on the Research Safety
(SRS): Oversight of physical environment and staff safety.
Subcommittee on Animal Studies
(SAS): Oversight of vertebrate studies.
Program
Administration:
Coordination and delivery of research and development support services to
include: space management, requisition and accounting, training, and project
reviews.
Southern California Institute for
Research and Education (SCIRE): Affiliated not for profit
corporation that manages funds in support of research and education.
